Week 2

Week 2:

In week one our Twitter voters came in with a 9-3 record while we tied them with an identical record.  Let’s see how week two rolls around: (Twitter Poll as of 11 am Thursday)

Sylvania Southview (1-0) @ Fremont Ross (0-1) (86% favor Fremont Ross) – While the Little Giants must find a way to put last week’s heart-breaking loss aside, Southview enters looking to build on its opening win.  The Cougars will show signs of improvement from the past few years, but Ross is a little more advanced at this point of the season.  Our Prediction:  Fremont Ross 42, Southview 13.

Oak Harbor (1-0) @ Genoa (1-0) (51% favor Oak Harbor)– A rivalry game between two strong Ottawa County teams will bring plenty of excitement to area fans.  While the Comets have dominated this series for years, Oak Harbor is hoping to stay healthy and knock off Genoa on the road.  Our prediction:  Genoa 21, Oak Harbor 20.

Clyde (1-0) @ Ashland (1-0) (73% favor Ashland) – A game winning kick as time expired in week one gave Clyde a thrilling victory; however, a road game at Ashland will probably test the Fliers a little more.  While going against Clyde is always a difficult choice, this week we’ll have to take the Arrows.  Our prediction:  Ashland 35, Clyde 21.

Clear Fork (1-0) @ Bellevue (0-1) (67% favor Bellevue) – A rematch of last year’s playoff contest in which Bellevue escaped with an eight point win, Clear Fork will hope to repeat what it did to the Redmen in week two when it captured a 20-14 overtime win over Bellevue.  Bellevue doesn’t want to start the season with two straight losses.  Our prediction:  Bellevue 28, Clear Fork 17.

Port Clinton (0-1) @ Rossford (0-1) (65% favor Port Clinton) – Rossford will host Port Clinton in a key non-conference contest which will hopefully keep one season’s playoff hopes alive in only the second week.  A loss for either team will be hard to rebound from with conference play coming soon.  Last season Port Clinton won by three touchdowns.  Our prediction:  Port Clinton 27, Rossford 20.

Gibsonburg (1-0) @ Woodmore (0-1) (94% favor Gibsonburg) – Woodmore struggled against Northwood in its opener and Gibsonburg survived its battle with Elmwood.  Woodmore is hoping to jump out early in this game and fend off the pesky Golden Bears.  Our prediction:  Gibsonburg 31, Woodmore 13.

Margaretta (0-1) @ Western Reserve (0-1) (71% favor Margaretta) – A season ago Western Reserve nipped Margaretta by one point on the road.  The Polar Bears would like to return the favor this season.  Our prediction:  Margaretta 34, Western Reserve 18.

Fremont St. Joe (1-0) @ Norwalk St. Paul (1-0) (62% favor St. Paul) – Perennial power house Norwalk St. Paul will host Fremont St. Joe in week two.  Both teams came away with wins in their openers, but obviously, only one team can win this week.  Our prediction:  Norwalk St. Paul 46, Fremont SJCC 6.

Lakota (0-1) @ Elmwood (0-1) (60% favor Elmwood) – Elmwood put up a fight against Gibsonburg in week one and Lakota had its struggles in a loss to Mohawk.  Week two should be a hard fought battle between two schools close in location.  Our prediction:  Lakota 28, Elmwood 20.

South Central (1-0) @ Danbury (1-0) (54% favor South Central) – South Central shut down the Lakers last season by a score of 42-0 and while we feel the Trojans will grab a week two win again this season, we’re not sure Danbury won’t put up a much better fight.  Our prediction:  South Central 39, Danbury 20.

Week 1 OHSN Predictions & Thoughts

We polled our OHSNonline Twitter audience to see what you thought.  Let’s see how that stacks up against our thoughts.  (Twitter poll as of Noon on Thursday).

Seneca East v. Margaretta (79% favor Margaretta) (@ Bellevue) – At a neutral site due to stadium renovations, Margaretta will be the home team looking to build off a 5-5 2017 season in which the Polar Bears won four of their last five games of the season.  Seneca East is coming off an 8-2 season in which it lost its opening round playoff game.  We’ll take Seneca East to start the season off on a good note:  Prediction:  Seneca East 30, Margaretta 18.

Woodmore @ Northwood (55% favor Woodmore) – We feel that Woodmore is going to be much improved this season if everyone stays healthy, but a trip up the road to Northwood is never easy.  The Rangers pack a dangerous offensive punch.  Prediction:  Northwood 55, Woodmore 20.

Bellevue @ Canton Central Catholic (73% favor Bellevue) – A 9-4 season last year started with a narrow four point win against Canton Central Catholic.  While Stark County may be known for its football, Bellevue shows why the Redmen have been a team from NW Ohio that has made a lot of noise over the years.  Prediction:  Bellevue 34, Canton Central Catholic 10.

Genoa @ Bishop Ready (76% favor Genoa) – This may be one of the more entertaining games for teams in our immediate coverage area.  Genoa is coming off an 8-3 season while the Knights went 7-4 overall last season.  A long bus ride for the Comets won’t be of any issue, but a tough Bishop Ready team just might be.  Prediction:  Genoa 28, Bishop Ready 27.

Toledo Start @ Clyde (71% favor Clyde) -  A season ago the 9-3 Clyde Fliers scratched out a 17-14 win over Toledo Start.  Start finished the season with five straight wins against a relatively weak Toledo City League and finished with a 7-3 record.  With Clyde hosting this week one match-up we’ll give the Fliers the edge.  Prediction:  Clyde 28, Toledo Start 20.

Danbury @ Vanlue (53% favor Danbury) – A road game for the Lakers to open the season will hopefully kick start a season in which Danbury enters a new conference.  Vanlue won just one contest last year and numbers are certainly a concern for both teams.  Prediction:  Danbury 38, Vanlue 13.

Cardinal Stritch @ Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic (78% favor SJCC) – A Friday night home opener at Don Paul Stadium features Cardinal Stritch and Fremont SJCC.  The Crimson Streaks rolled last season and we think they will again in 2018’s edition.  Prediction:  SJCC 49, Stritch 12.

Fremont Ross @ Springfield (52% favor Fremont Ross) – The Little Giants enter the new season with high hopes and look to get things started on the road.  Last season Springfield finished with a 5-5 record and lost in week one to the Little Giants.  Prediction:  Ross 35, Springfield 10.

Fostoria @ Oak Harbor (52% favor Oak Harbor) – Oak Harbor lost to Fostoria last year and every loss a season ago hurt the Rockets’ chances at the playoffs.  This year the Rockets have the post-season on their minds and know they must start off solid.  Fostoria, like Oak Harbor, finished 5-5 last year.  Prediction:  Oak Harbor 36, Fostoria 21.

Mohawk @ Lakota (61% favor Mohawk) – Mohawk finished 8-3 last season and made it to the first round of the OHSAA playoffs.  Lakota, which finished at 6-4, is ready to make its push for post-season action.  This should be a great contest.  Prediction:  Lakota 28, Mohawk 24.

Elmwood @ Gibsonburg (78% favor Gibsonburg) – It will be interesting to see how Gibsonburg handles a new head coach, but a home game at Elmwood should kick-start a season where the Golden Bears will look to reign in the SBC River division.  Elmwood has had its problems recently and we think the Royals will show some steps of improvement this season but the NBC is a very tough conference.  Prediction:  Gibsonburg 40, Elmwood 6.

Port Clinton @ Sandusky (77% favor Sandusky) – The Blue Streaks would love to start the season off with a win at home.  Port Clinton is coming off several seasons of solid football, but the question will be how will this season begin?  Prediction:  Sandusky 31, Port Clinton 24.
