VERMILION - Oak Harbor spotted Vermilion a two run lead in the first inning of Friday's Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division's, but the Rockets clamped down from there en route to a 15-7 victory.
Maggie Hoffman tripled home Gracie Frey with one out in the first and then came home on a single from Erica Eschenauer to make it 2-0 before Oak Harbor's Ashley Riley forced a ground out and then picked up a third out on a strike out.
The Rockets would get their first run in the top of the second as Olivia Rahm picked up a two out RBI by bringing home Lauren St. Claire to make it 2-1.
Dani Epling scored Oak Harbor's second run in the top of the third inning to even the score at 2-2 after three innings of action.
Oak Harbor would then take the lead in the fourth as Taylor Lemaster stole home for a run and Riley drove in Emily Lenke.
Holding a 4-2 lead, the Rockets really opened the lead in the fifth by scoring seven runs.
Rahm would drive in two more runs on a triple with one out and then score to make it 8-2.
Rahm finished with four hits and five RBIs while St. Claire and Riley each drove in three runs.
A two-run homer by Riley then made it 10-2, Riley's fourth long ball of the season.
Meanwhile, Riley (7-1 on the season) settled down after a rocky first inning and gave up just three runs while striking out five through five innings.
Riley gave up just two earned runs in the contest as Vermilion had eight hits.
Even though Riley seemed to be in control, a couple of errors by Oak Harbor in the bottom of the sixth allowed the Sailors to put up five runs in the bottom of the inning as the Rockets held an 11-7 lead entering the final inning.
For insurance purposes, the Rockets would add four runs in their last at bat to secure the win.
Danielle McGlothlin took the loss for Vermilion giving up 11 earned runs on 17 Oak Harbor hits.
Oak Harbor (7-2) is schedule to play at Gibsonburg on Saturday while Vermilion (0-3 overall) will travel to Lorain.
