BELLEVUE - The Bellevue girls' basketball team is no stranger to conference championships.
Having won seven in a row, the Lady Redmen added a new conference title to their belts as they defeated Clyde 74-54 to improve to 20-1 and captured their first Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division title.
Clyde wasn't going to allow it to be easy, though.
As Bellevue's offense seemed to be rolling early on, the Fliers kept things interested for the first 14 minutes of the game.
A basket by Jackie Smith cut Bellevue's lead to 14-12 with 1:08 left in the first before Bellevue finished the quarter with the lead of 18-14.
Casey Santoro scored ten points for Bellevue in the opening eight minutes of play.
As the second period opened, Clyde's Heidi Marshall swished a 3-pointer from the top of the key to make it 18-17, her third 3-pointer of the game.
Bellevue's Riley Mohr answered with a 3-pointer of her own only to be counteracted with another Fliers' 3-pointer, this time from Alayna Barrera making it 21-20 in favor of Bellevue with 6:58 left in the half.
The Redmen answered with a 10-0 run during the next 2:43 as Payton Vogel knocked in several free throws and Casey Santoro added another basket.
Bellevue took over from there and controlled the tempo the remainder of the game despite Marshall's 15 points and Jackie Smith's 16 points.
Casey Santoro led the way for the Redmen with 20 points while Vogel finished with 17, Cory Santoro with 16, and Gabby Turner finished with 12.
Bellevue's regular season will come to a close on Thursday as it hosts Norwalk.
Clyde (9-11 overall) will host Tiffin Columbian on Thursday and then Western Reserve on Saturday.
