FREMONT - While there may not be much to play for in regards to winning a conference championship the Fremont Ross boys' basketball team is still fighting for respect.
On Friday at the Purple Pit, the Little Giants gutted out a 45-44 win over Toledo Central Catholic to earn just its second Three Rivers Athletic Conference win of the season.
Fremont Ross (5-10, 2-8 TRAC) played a focused first half in which it outscored the Irish 23-16.
Bryce McKinstry notched six first quarter points and Davion Anderson, Jabryis Heidelburg, and Tre Campbell each fired in a 3-pointer during the second quarter to spark the Little Giants on offense.
Defensively, Fremont Ross kept the Irish (6-9, 2-6 TRAC) in check as Jonzel Norrils was the only Central Catholic player in the first quarter to make field goal, finishing with six of his game-high 17 points in the quarter.
Dallas Fields was able to drop in a pair of shots in the second quarter for the Irish, but Central struggled offensively during the opening two periods of play.
The Little Giants continued to lead after the third quarter as Sewell added another 3-pointer and finished with four of his team high ten points in the third.
3-pointers by Heidelburg and Bryce Root also allowed the Little Giants to remain in the lead.
Meanwhile the Irish found a little offensive momentum as they trimmed Fremont's lead to six points going into the final quarter.
While the Little Giants were held without a field goal in the fourth quarter, five free throws in the period allowed them to hold on for the win.
Fremont Ross will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to face rival Sandusky.
The Irish will return to action on Tuesday when they host Lima Senior in TRAC action.
