CLYDE - Shelby's Bailey Walter was dominant in the first half of the Whippets' Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division's game at Clyde.
Walter knocked in seven baskets during the opening quarters to keep Shelby within reach of the Fliers and Shelby overcame Clyde in the final frame to pick up a 56-51 win.
Alexis Keegan gave Clyde an early boost by scoring six of her 11 points in the game during a first quarter in which the Fliers took a 16-11 lead.
Clyde (8-9, 4-5 Lake Division) struggled to keep Walter in check after a six point first quarter from Walter, the 5'9" junior added eight more points in the second as the Whippets cut their deficit to 34-33 at the half.
Emma Randall, who finished with 13 points for Shelby, added six points for the Whippets in the second.
The Fliers added a point to their lead in the third quarter as Alayna Barerra sank one of her two 3-pointers in the game during the period.
Barrera finished with eight points in the game.
Jackie Smith added two of her team-high 12 points in the third as Clyde took a 45-43 lead into the final quarter.
Six points by Sydnie Seibert in the fourth boosted Shelby ahead as Seibert finished with 13 points, and Mallory Bishop added a key 3-pointer as the Whippets went on for the win.
Shelby will host Bellevue on Saturday afternoon while Clyde will have a road contest at Sandusky.
