FREMONT - The Fremont Ross boys' basketball team entered Friday's Three Rivers Athletics Conference game seeking its first win of the season.
They knew a match-up against a very athletic Lima Senior team would be difficult, but that didn't stop the Little Giants from shocking the Spartans.
Down by a point, Fremont Ross senior Maliek Johnson drained a 3-pointer as time expired and the Little Giants earned their first win of the season by a score of 50-48.
Keyon Sewell tossed up a 3-pointer in the final seconds that bounced into the hands of Bryce McKinstry.
McKinstry tried to tie the game, but his shot was blocked out of bounds with one second remaining setting up the game winner.
Johnson finished the game with 14 points.
Lima Senior fought its way to a 20-16 lead after one quarter behind Jaleel King and BJ Miller's play.
Ross (1-5, 1-4 TRAC) stayed close and at the half, the Little Giants found themselves down just 31-29.
Jabryis Heidelburg had 15 points for the Little Giants and Bryce Root added ten.
Lima Senior (5-4, 2-3 TRAC) then lost its lead in the third quarter as Ross outscored the Spartans 14-8 thanks to an 8-0 run by the Little Giants earlier in the third.
The two teams struggled offensively in the fourth quarter before the Spartans took a narrow lead late.
Fremont will return to action on Saturday when Clyde will come to the Purple Pit.
Lima Senior will host Elida on Saturday in a non-conference contest.
