OLD FORT - After a disappointing loss to Sandusky St. Mary's Central Catholic last weekend, Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic coach Jonathan Will was looking to see how his team would respond.
With a road game at Sandusky Bay Conference River Division foe Old Fort, the Crimson Streaks had a strong showing as SJCC earned a 60-50 victory.
"It was a tremendous response to our play last weekend at St. Mary's," Will said. "We backed ourselves into a corner with the early league loss, so this was a must win of sorts tonight."
SJCC took a 17-11 lead after one quarter as Chase Harrison scored six points in the quarter and Tad Foster added five.
The Stockaders rebounded to take a 28-25 lead at the half as Jacob Webb netted seven of his 19 points in the second.
Old Fort (3-3, 1-1 SBC River) remained in front of the Crimson Streaks after three quarters as Webb drained two more 3-pointers in the third.
Spencer Harrison dropped in seven points for SJCC in the third as the Crimson Streaks (3-2, 2-1 SBC River) cut into the Old Fort lead to make it 41-40 entering the final quarter.
Chris Morrisette made 8-of-9 free throws in the fourth and Foster added a pair of foul shots as SJCC outscored Old Fort 20-9 in the fourth.
Foster was a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line in the game.
Morrisette led SJCC with 16 points while Foster had 14 and Zach Wonderly added 13.
"It was a great road win for us," said Will. "We simply told the kids all week, 'find a way.' It's a tough place to play and I could not be prouder of my guys."
Vanlue will play SJCC on Saturday at the Thunder Dome while Old Fort will travel to South Central.
