Oak Harbor senior Ashley Riley drives to the hoop during the Rockets win over Old Fort on Tuesday.
OAK HARBOR - With much of the opponent's attention on Oak Harbor junior Logan Harris, teams often fail to recognize that there are several other players on the Rockets' team that can pose big threats.
Sophomore Sophia Eli is one of those players, and on Tuesday she showed just part of what she is capable of with her offense and defense.
Eli's quickness and defensive prowess caused several Old Fort turnovers and on the offensive end Eli tallied 16 points as Oak Harbor earned a 53-36 win over the Stockaders.
Oak Harbor (15-4) took an early 6-2 lead as Harris and Abby Dornbusch connected on 3-pointers.
Old Fort (7-11 overall) trailed 21-8 with 3:52 left in the opening half, but Sydney Hossler, who scored nine points on three 3-pointers, and Jenna Clouse, who added another long range shot and finished with seven helped the Stockaders battle back.
With 1:25 left in the half Old Fort had rallied to within three and trailed 22-19.
Oak Harbor quickly responded with a 7-0 run to go into the intermission with a 29-19 lead.
Eli intercepted an Old Fort pass early in the third quarter and the Rockets continued to pull away by pushing their lead to 15 after three quarters.
Harris ended up leading Oak Harbor in scoring with 19 points while Ashley Riley contributed nine points.
The Rockets will be back in action on Saturday with a road contest at Port Clinton with the JV tip slated for noon.
Old Fort will play Seneca East at home on Thursday.
