OAK HARBOR - Friday's Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division game between Oak Harbor and Willard was a highly anticipated battle between the division's top two teams.
Despite Oak Harbor holding a 15 point lead in the second half, the Flashes rallied back and knocked off the Rockets on a baseline jumper by Brooke Vipperman as the clock expired by the score of 49-48.
Oak Harbor senior, Ashley Riley, went to the basket in the final twenty seconds of the game as Willard led 47-45.
Riley got to the hoop, knocked in the basket and drew a foul.
Riley converted the free throw giving Oak Harbor a 48-47 lead with 11 seconds left in the game.
That's when Willard pushed the ball down the floor and nailed the winning basket.
Riley scored 14 points in the contest.
Clinging to a two point lead at the half the Rockets came out of the locker room with a little sizzle.
During the first minute of the second half Oak Harbor scored eight unanswered points.
That was just part of the ten point run the Rockets put together to grab a 35-23 lead with 6:31 left in the third quarter.
Oak Harbor continued its defensive pressure for the next several minutes and with 3:57 to go in the third it found itself with its largest lead of the contest at 40-25.
Willard (5-2, 3-0 SBC Bay) closed the quarter with an eight point run of its own as the Rockets led 40-33.
After the Flashes cut the lead to four, Logan Harris completed a three point play with 5:16 left in the game to put the Rockets up 43-36.
Harris was Oak Harbor's leading scorer with 16 points.
Freshman Presley Feltner knocked in a basket in the paint with 2:36 left for the Flashes as Oak Harbor's lead was trimmed to 43-42.
Feltner finished with seven points in the game.
Willard was finally able to tie the score at 45-45 when Madie Secor buried a 3-pointer with 1:16 to go.
Sophomore Cassidy Crawford gave Willard a 47-45 lead with :46 seconds left in the game with a pair of free throws setting up the wild finish.
Crawford led Willard with 17 points while Secor had ten.
One area that Willard capitalized during the entire contest was on the glass.
The Flashes snagged 36 rebounds as Crawford led the team with 17 while the Rockets had just 23.
Willard will return to action December 27th when it plays at Newark.
Oak Harbor (7-2, 2-1 SBC Bay) will host Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic on December 28th.
Oak Harbor and Willard will meet up one more time later this season on January 27th at Willard High School.
