CLYDE - Clyde knew that if it was going to knock off unbeaten Shelby it was going to need to be ready from the start.
The Fliers' engines were primed Thursday as they opened a 16-point lead after one quarter and earned a 64-54 win to send the Whippets to their first loss of the season.
Clyde (3-2, 1-2 Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division) raced to a 26-10 lead in the first quarter behind the strength of Derick Harrah, Seth Hohman, and Conner Long.
The trio each scored in double figures for the Fliers led by Harrah's 18 points.
Hohman tickled the nets from 3-point range three times in the contest and finished with 17 points and Long tallied 11.
By the time Shelby's Uriah Schwemley got hot, Clyde seemed to have taken the steam out of the Whippets.
Shelby outscored Clyde 31-22 in the second half while Schwemley finished with 20 points and Brady Hill added 14.
The Whippets fall to 3-1 overall (1-1 SBC Lake).
Shelby's next game will be Saturday at 3 pm against Ashland at Ontario High School.
Clyde will return to action next Wednesday as it will travel to Sandusky.
