Rockets Come Up Short at Vermilion

Oak Harbor's Aric McAtee drops in two of his ten points at Vermilion.

VERMILION - Mason Montgomery and Joby Pfeil combined for 40 points Thursday for Vermilion as the Sailors held on for a 65-60 win over Oak Harbor in Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division action.

The Sailors (5-1, 3-0 SBC Bay) were able to outscore Oak Harbor 19-11 in the opening quarter as Vermilion's defensive pressure caught the Rockets off guard early on.

Montgomery's 20 point performance and Pfeil's 20 point performance carried Vermilion throughout the game and provided baskets for the Sailors when needed.

Despite falling behind 34-25 at the half, Oak Harbor held its own and fought its way back in the second half.

Tate Smith led Oak Harbor with 17 points while Jac Alexander finished with 14.

Oak Harbor (4-2, 1-1 SBC Bay) will play an afternoon game on Saturday at Lakota while Vermilion will travel to Margaretta on December 29th.
